The Daisy Chronicles....Chapter 2
"Don't Leave Home without Her"When ski slopes turn to waterslides, Marie usually looks
forward to fun in Girls Marie’s age don’t have much choice. Teens work at
fast food joints, camps and pools, unless they are lucky enough to have a
relative in a business that can use an intern or part time worker. But instead,
she headed to the local ski resort to check out the jobs at the waterpark. And
sure enough, she
Her first day on the job, things went predictably—rough and slow. “Hey kiddo, know how to cook a burger? Ever dunk fries in hot oil?” Jerry Grecco teased. “I’m a quick learner, Marie quippe “We’re not fryin’ eggs here lady. I said BURGERS, what are you deaf?” Jerry got crazy on purpose. “Oh, ok.” Marie figured the less said, the better. Jerry was the pool-side tough guy who was more interested
in his next female “conquest” than in making new friends on the job. Marie
figured she’d stay away, but that was a bit difficult being elbow-to-elbow with
him every day. Enter “Ginny.” Next day on the job was a Saturday, which was a much busier day for Mountain Beach, and the temperature was soaring into the 90’s. As lunchtime drew near, the burgers were flying, the fries were sputtering and the soft drinks were handed over the counter without thinking or stopping for a flirt or hello. Marie survived by staying out of Jerry’s way, while being sure to hand him whatever he needed before he actually needed it. This skill of anticipation would serve Marie well with difficult people like Jerry, but it made her a “nervous Nellie” around normal folk. And it would have worked for the short term if it weren’t for the arrival of “Ginny.” Ginny was a blond, blue-eyed blue-blood who couldn’t believe her parents were making her work. But the spoiled little girl got in trouble one too many times and her parents signed up for the “Tough Love,” program, …thus the job. Would the job cause Ginny to shape up and would it teach her some of life’s lessons? Or would it become another platform for Ginny to refine her selfish style? Read on. Ginny meets Jerry. Jerry likes Ginny…Ginny hates Jerry….and Ginny despises Marie, just for the fun of it. Marie went home Saturday night and her Mom met her at the door.
